Rainbow Snippet–Love on the Mound

This is from a piece of writing that has been Shelved, But Not Forgotten.  A sports based second-chance romance.

It happened fast. The blink of an eye, the blur of a moment between it happening and the realising of what it meant. He could remember catching the ball in his mitt; reaching round to tag the player running straight at him, and then screaming. Lying on the ground while some one screamed. His teammates rushing toward him with such worried looks; the pained expression on Jordan’s face as he knelt on the ground beside him. The horrible realisation that the screaming came from him as he clutched at his knee bent in ways it should never be. He could hear the words of reassurance; the promises that everything would be alright…
